In order to promote effective exchange of best practices, use of digital tools and implementation of innovations in the construction industry, SJSC "State Real Estate" (SRE), Riga Technical University (RTU) and LTD "Latvijas standarts" (LVS) signed a memorandum of cooperation on the establishment of a new construction competition "Digital Construction Excellence Award 2025".
The aim of the competition will be to highlight innovative solutions applied in Latvia, to inspire industry players to use modern technologies, to inform public clients about concrete benefits of BIM projects, to promote exchange of experience between construction industry participants, as well as to facilitate the implementation of new BIM projects in the public sector.
"The Memorandum is signed by three key representatives of the public sector – each with their own expertise, but with a common goal of building a more sustainable future through innovation and digitalisation. As the level of digital maturity in the sector is rapidly growing, projects should be assessed in more detail and more thoroughly, and the competition is intended not only as a tool to congratulate the most successful projects, but also as a platform for the exchange of information and ideas among industry participants," says Renārs Griškevičs, Chairman of the Board of SRE.
The projects submitted to the competition will be evaluated in five nominations: BIM Project, BIM Construction Site, Digital Twin, Sustainable BIM and Digital Innovation. Participation in the competition is free of charge and anyone can apply. Applications are open until July 31. More about the competition here.
"The signing of the Memorandum is a continuation of an important cooperation, promoting the integration of digital solutions in the construction sector and highlighting bold, innovative ideas. Digitalisation is a prerequisite for the sustainable development of the sector and the basis for Latvia's competitiveness. Riga Technical University wants to establish the Digital Construction Excellence Award 2025 as a tradition, highlighting the most outstanding projects and promoting healthy competition in the industry," says Liene Briede, Innovation Vice-Rector of Riga Technical University.
"Looking to the future, this new competition for BIM projects will serve as a showcase for the best ideas. More importantly, it will help inspire the entire construction community to think creatively and set higher goals by introducing digital methods," said Ingars Pilmanis, head of LVS.
The jury for the competition is made up of industry professionals from the public and private sectors: SRE, RTU, Latvian Association of Architects, Latvian Construction Contractors Association, Real Estate Developers Alliance, Construction State Control Bureau, Association of Heat, Gas and Water Technology Engineers of Latvia, Latvian Building Construction Designers Association and LTD "BIM Solutions".
